Obituary: John ‘Jack’ McCann, 71, salesman, grandfather

John Patrick “Jack” McCann Jr. died on Dec. 22, at Schaffer Extended Care Center in New Rochelle. He was 71.

Mr. McCann was born in Port Chester to the late John Patrick McCann Sr. and Christine Russell McCann. He was raised in New Rochelle.

Mr. McCann spent more than 20 years in South Salem, where was involved with the Lewisboro Lions, taught CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) classes and catered events. He spent a long career in soft drink sales, which combined his love of people, entertainment, travel, food and beverages.

Mr. McCann lived in Portsmouth, Ohio, as a boy, spending summers on the Ohio River, appreciating farms and the ease of midwestern living. He also spent many summers on Cape Cod with his brothers, sister, nieces and nephews, singing songs, watching sunsets and celebrating America.

Mr. McCann is survived by his daughters Margaret Rutherfurd, Tina McCann Moore, Elizabeth Kelly McCann, Kathleen McCann Dierkes and Barbara Jeanne Hadley; his sons-in-law Chris Moore, Chris Dierkes and Chris Hadley; and six grandchildren.

Services were held on Dec. 28, and Dec. 29, and were managed by McGrath Funeral Home of Bronxville. In memory of Jack, in lieu of flowers, and to honor what he held dearly to his heart, his family suggests donations to the Ohio River Foundation:

Please send donations in his name: John Patrick McCann Jr.
