The Harvey School boys basketball team picked up its sixth win in the last seven games on Monday when the Cavaliers defeated EF International Academy, 48-37.
Harvey was a little sloppy out of the gate and trailed by a point at halftime, but coaches Dom Narcisco and Mike Rubenfeld used the intermission to remind the players how they had turned their season around.
“The halftime speech was simple,” said coach Narcisco. “We told them to go out and execute the plays like we know how and play with more energy and toughness.’’
After starting the season 0-10, the Cavaliers ran off five consecutive wins before suffering a defeat to Forman last Wednesday.
Harvey answered the call in the second half, led by strong defensive and physical play of their big man, Andrew Schwartz of Bedford Corners, who took a charge and led the team with eight rebounds.
Senior forward Jesse Zubren of Pound Ridge again rallied the troops to come out in the second half and take a commanding lead. Junior forward Jake Cohn of Pound Ridge and sophomore Sam Mackiewicz also had strong games for Harvey.
Cohn and sophomore guard Ricky Hicks led the team in scoring with 11 points each, while Mackiewicz played a solid all-around game, scoring seven points and playing great defense throughout. Teddy Woo led EFIA with 10 points.
The Cavaliers, now 6-11, will look to make it seven wins out of the last eight games on Wednesday when they host Stamford Academy.
