Boys swimming: John Jay-Brewster fourth at divisionals

The John Jay-Brewster boys swim and dive team placed fourth at the Section 1 Division 1 championships, held on Saturday in Peekskill.

JJ-B finished with 237 points, finishing behind Lourdes, Arlington and Wappingers, but ahead of Yorktown, Lakeland, Peekskill, Beacon and Poughkeepsie.

Mark Stein won the one-meter diving with a score of 261.15.

Brian Valedon was the top point scorer for JJ-B with 33 points, finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.97) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (season-best 2:07.43).

Liam Hackett racked up 32 points as was third in both the 100-yard freestyle (51.95) and 100-yard backstroke (season-best 57.03).

Greg Markert provided another 27 points with a couple of season-best efforts. He was seventh in the 200 freestyle, besting his previous best time by 3.37 seconds with a 1:55.84, and fourth in the 100 backstroke, lowering his best time by more than eight seconds with a 58.45.

Kaz Sampson scored 21 points, placing fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.63) and tenth in the 50 freestyle (24.73).

David Batten added seven more points, as he finished 13th in the 50 freestyle (25.02) and 14th in the 100 breaststroke, where he lowered his season best time by more than two seconds with a 1:17.04.

Evan Dodes provided five points with a 12th-place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:07.72).

    The times for Brian Valedon in both of his events are incorrect. He posted a 2:00.92 in the 200IM and a 4:50.48 in the 500 freestyle events placing 2nd in 200IM and 1st in the 500 freestyle.
    He qualified for the NYS swimming championships in the 500free.
    Please make corrections.
