The John Jay wrestling team’s home match this past Tuesday against Somers will be televised on tonight, Jan. 17, at 9:30 on MSG Varsity, Optimum TV Channel 14. Once aired, the match will be available for viewing on MSG Varsity’s on-demand channel 614.
After a last week’s tough two-point loss to Mahopac, John Jay bounced back with a convincing win over Somers.
The early matches gave little indication of what the final score would be. The Tuskers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, and led 16-4 after four matches. After seven matches, Somers led 22-16.
But beginning at the 170-pound match, the Tuskers forfeited six matches in a row, before Chris Kelly closed out the match with a pin in the 113-pound match to make it 42 straight points.
The Indians (12-7) got wins via pin from Kelly and Andrew O’Connor (152 pounds), a major decision victory by Alex Lambiotte (132) and decision win from Graham Bocklet (145). Damien Franco, Billy Greene, Billy Gossett, Louis Talia, Ethan Smith and Nikolai Degenhardt all won via forfeit.
