The John Jay wrestling team suffered a tough loss at home on Wednesday, falling by two points to Mahopac, 38-36.
The Indians (11-7) got wins via pin from Brian Kershner (126 pounds), Graham Bocklet (145), Billy Gossett (195) and Ethan Smith (220), while Giancarlo Geniso won a 5-4 decision at 152 pounds and Nicolai Degenhardt won an 8-6 decision at 106. Chris Kelly won by forfeit at 113 pounds. At 220 pounds, Louis Talia lost a 3-2 decision.
John Jay built a 21-12 lead after Kershner’s win at 126 pounds, but Mahopac (12-8) won the next two matches to go up 22-21. Back-to-back wins by Bocklet and Geniso put John Jay back on top, 30-22, but Mahopac won the next three matches, two of them by pin, to build a 38-30 lead with one match left.
