Anne Marie Murphy, a Katonah native, died Friday, Dec. 14, at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where she was a teacher. The wife of Michael Murphy, she was 52 and the mother of four. She was a 14-year resident of Sandy Hook and had formerly lived in Katonah.
Ms. Murphy was born July 25, 1960 in Mount Kisco, the daughter of Dr. Hugh and Alice McGowan of Katonah and graduated from St. Mary’s School in Katonah, John F. Kennedy High School in Somers, and Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven with an M.S. degree in education.
“She will be remembered for her love of the arts, walks in the outdoors and most importantly her family,” said a spokesman for the family.
In addition to her husband and children, Kelly, Colleen, Paige and Thomas; her parents, and her sister in Ridgefield, Conn., she is survived by her sisters Alice in Newtown and Catherine in Katonah and her brothers Hugh of Pawling, Dr. Thomas of Somers, and Peter of Troy.
There are calling hours on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, at St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, 117 Valley Road, Katonah, N.Y. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Somers.
