The Harvey School girls varsity basketball team ended a two-game losing streak on Monday, defeating Montfort Academy of Katonah, 54-44.
Senior forward Gaby Paulhac of Waccabuc poured in a game-high 21 points for the Lady Cavaliers, who played shorthanded when senior starter Chinasa Nwokocha suffered an injury and did not play in the second half.
Harvey was down another starter, senior guard Rane Prieto, who has missed several games due to an injured thumb.
Paulhac’s hot hand and double-digit scoring from senior Abby Hassett of Katonah paced the Harvey attack.
Harvey had a strong first half and led Montfort 26-17 at intermission, but the visitors fought back with a 27-point second half. The Lady Cavs were able to hold on for their fourth win in six games this season.
Paulhac also excelled under the boards, hauling down 15 rebounds. Newcomer Daly Naughton made a lot of contributions, leading Harvey in blocked shots with six, assists with five, and tied for the lead in steals (five) with teammate Ariana Weaver. Naughton also contributed eight points.
The coaches name Paulhac and Hassett as game MVPs for Harvey.
