School board members and district administrators recently toured a Brookfield, Conn., school that uses a “one iPad to one student” tech program. Board member Janet Harckham said at a recent board meeting that the experience was very informative and showed how such a program operates and the benefits of its use. Ms. Harckham also noticed Brookfield’s success with blocked class periods of four or five 80-minute periods. The scheduling means less time is wasted walking between classes, and it provides more flexible and relaxed teaching time, she said. She also noted the program had initial pushback from teachers but has since been widely endorsed.
