Jean S. Dunnington, nee Schermerhorn passed away peacefully on November 15, 2012, surrounded by her loved ones.
The daughter of William and Ruth Schermerhorn of White Plains, she was a descendant of Peter Schermerhorn, a merchant ship owner. The Schermerhorn row block is now part of the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan dating from 1811. Jean married Carl E. Dunnington in 1961 and resided in Kensington, MD. She was active in St Paul’s United Methodist Church. In 1987, after the death of her husband she returned to South Salem, NY. A 10 year member of the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps., she served as both captain and president. During her many years in Nokomis, Florida she volunteered for Agape Flights and The Venice Theatre.
She is survived by: Sister, Nan C. Lewis and her husband Richard, Nieces and Nephews, Michael, Robert, and Heather. Cousins, Carol Kearney and husband Tony and daughter Amanda, Roger Hunt and family. Stepdaughter, Dolores Kalpak & husband Ara, Step-Son Ronald Dunnington and wife Barbara. 4 Grandchildren: Ronald, Dawn “Pitter”, Cari, and David. 4 Great-Grandchildren: Moriah, Ananiah, Love, Marlee and Grayson.
Arrangements are being handled by Ewing Funeral Home of Venice, FL. Services will be private with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.
